This battle station is fully operational

A terse update to the Stop Darth Weinstein Cause. Today's theme: war is waged for a variety of reasons: greed, nationalism, religion, glory, irridentism, etc. All of these however are just an abstraction to more basic (earthly) cause: Pride. The pride is so overwhelming, that they have no choice to fight over it - OURS is the best nation, I'M worthy of this land, MY NAME shall forever live in infamy.

The Darth Weinstein War fits this mold to a tee. He's been given something pure - a movie "made for fans, by fans, [and] accepted by fans" - and, instead of simply revealing it to the public in a gracious state, has decided that because this movie doesn't follow the formula that HE insists all movies be, he's going to change it.

The sin of greed is rather obvious. Last time, I touched on how if that in itself wasn't heinous enough, he is also working towards putting out a product that rewards idiocy instead of inspiring good-will and provoking thought.

One additional crime I'd like to address today is his adherence to the oft misused adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." When used improperly, this can fall prey to the following fallacies:
1) An incorrect assumption that it isn't broken brought on either by delusion or complete LAZINESS to buckle up and fix it.
2) The wrong person is making the judgement, one possibly without the tools to fix it (which in many cases, is a generous euphamism for ignorance).
3) Not understanding the difference between "ain't broke" and "not as good as it could be" (or in some cases "should be"... or in this case "already is").

In Weinstein's case, he has gone from ignorant to stubbornly ignorant (which, to those not suffering from the former, is one of the most painful varieties). Despite the effects of the boycott to his box office numbers, and a barrage of emails to his work associates, he has yet to relent. He'll soon discover further that as he tries to peddle away, he's only fanning the flames.

Thankfully, http://committed.to/stopdarthweinstein has faithfully lived up to the task of not only organization, but also giving up-to-date reports from the front lines. Our victories have ranged from telling (boycott helps 'Superhero Movie' box returns drop 50% below expectation) to sledgehammer-to-the-head blatant (Chinese culture minister Sun Jiazheng wearing a 'Stop Darth Weinstein' t-shirt!). I encourage you to check the site regularly to witness the glorious blossoming of victory.

Next boycott: The Forbidden Kingdom, coming out April 18th - a little bit more difficult to avoid than Superhero Movie, but we're not dancing around the maypole here.
